Heidi Smartt is Distinguished Technical Staff in the International Safeguards department at Sandia National Laboratories. She received her Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of New Mexico in 2005 with an emphasis in Applied Electromagnetics. Heidi has worked in nuclear nonproliferation since 1997 with early work focused on remote monitoring systems. Heidi is an internationally recognized expert in Containment/Surveillance (C/S) approaches and technologies, including seals, tamper-indicating enclosures, remote monitoring systems, and surveillance systems. Heidi is chair of both the Institute of Nuclear Materials Management (INMM) and the European Safeguards Research and Development Association (ESARDA) C/S Working Groups.
