As Nigeria advances in nuclear technology adoption, the safeguarding of radioactive materials in academic, medical, and industrial institutions becomes increasingly vital. This paper explores the role of nuclear security culture as a cornerstone for preventing the unauthorized access and misuse of radioactive materials in Nigerian facilities. The study examines the current state of nuclear security awareness among key stakeholders, identifies gaps in adherence to international best practices, and highlights the challenges posed by weak institutional policies and limited capacity. It also proposes actionable strategies for cultivating a robust security culture, including targeted training, policy reforms, and fostering collaboration between regulatory bodies and institutions. By emphasizing the importance of security-conscious behavior at all organizational levels, this paper aims to provide a blueprint for strengthening the nuclear security culture in Nigeria, contributing to global nuclear safety and security objectives.
