The atom is the smallest part of a simple body. It has a large nucleus capable of breaking in two when hit by a projectile. Nuclear energy is the binding energy of the constituents of the nucleus of atoms. Not only must it be safe, but it must also be used only for peaceful purposes. Unlike other forms of energy, nuclear energy was first used to make weapons. It was only later that non-destructive applications of this type of energy, such as civil nuclear power, came into being. This article highlights the non-destructive applications of the atom, focusing on aspects of climate change mitigation. A brief history of the atom has been given before presenting some of the initiatives already in place that use and promote nuclear energy to achieve climate goals. Some of the challenges in this area were presented before providing recommendations.
