Graduate Student Researcher Texas A&M University Bryan, Texas, United States
The INMM student chapter at Texas A&M University seeks to introduce students to the mission of nuclear material stewardship and to promote awareness of related opportunities early in our members’ academic careers. The chapter engages students by offering professional, academic, and social opportunities that facilitate understanding and discussion of nuclear security and safeguards topics. The chapter works closely with Texas A&M’s Center for Nuclear Security Science and Policy Initiatives (NSSPI) and the nuclear engineering department to host professionals in nuclear nonproliferation. Visitors over the previous academic year have included representatives and staff scientists from many U.S. National Laboratories, the International Atomic Energy Agency, and the Ghana Atomic Energy Commission. From February 3-6, 2025, the chapter hosted a workshop on nonproliferation concerns for pebble-bed and TRISO-fueled reactors. In addition to bringing in external visitors, students and faculty members in the department who are engaged in safeguards and security research are encouraged to present to the chapter. Chapter members are also provided with social and academic support for departmental coursework and navigation of degree requirements. By promoting awareness of nuclear material stewardship to our student members, the Texas A&M student chapter is thrilled to support the next generation of nuclear safeguards and security practitioners as they navigate their academic careers and prepare to enter the workforce.
